Aussies seal test win against England

BRISBANE, Australia, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Australia has strolled home winners by 277 runs over England in the first Ashes cricket Test in Brisbane Monday.

England's faint hopes of salvaging a draw ended with the fourth ball when Kevin Pietersen departed without adding to his overnight score of 92. He drove a delivery from Brett Lee straight to mid-wicket to be caught by Damien Martin.

England wicket-keeper Geraint Jones (33) and Ashley Giles (23) kept the visitors' tailend wagging but, once they were out, it was virtually all over and England were dismissed for 370.

The scores: Australia 9/602 (declared) and 1/202 (declared). England 157 and 370.

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who made 196 in his team's first innings, was named man-of-the-match.

The second Test starts Adelaide on Friday.
