Aussie veteran bowler destroys England

BRISBANE, Australia, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- England managed only 157 runs in its first innings to trail Australia by 445 after the 1st innings of the first cricket test.

Veteran Aussie pace bowler Glenn McGrath, 36, took six wickets for 50 in his first test appearance in almost 11 months to lead the destruction in Brisbane.

But Australian captain Ricky Ponting declined to force the follow-on, and Australia extended its lead to 626 runs with nine second innings wickets in hand after the third day's play.

Mathew Hayden was run out for 37 but his Australian opening partner Justin Langer was on 88, and Ponting was 51 not out, when stumps were drawn.
