COL BKB: Gonzaga 82, North Carolina 74

NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Derek Raivio had 21 points and eight rebounds Wednesday night as No. 23 Gonzaga upset second-ranked North Carolina, 82-74.

The victory catapulted the Bulldogs (5-0) into the championship game of the pre-season NIT college basketball tournament Friday night against Butler.

Josh Heytvelt had 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots for Gonzaga. Jeremy Pargo had 16 points, four rebounds and two assists; and Matt Bouldin added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.

UNC is the highest-ranked team that Gonzaga has ever beaten.

Brandan Wright had 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for North Carolina. Bobby Frasor and Ty Lawson scored 11 points each, and all-America forward Tyler Hansbrough was held to seven points for the Tar Heels (3-1).

Gonzaga led, 40-37, at the break, and held a 60-47 lead with 14:31 left.

The closest North Carolina came was 70-68 on a dunk by Hansbrough with 4:15 remaining.
