Texas Tech official defends Knight

HOUSTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The athletic director of Texas Tech University has denied basketball coach Bob Knight acted improperly by grabbing a player's chin.

Athletic director Gerald Myers said he has spoken to the involved parties about the incident, which occurred Monday when sophomore forward Michael Prince was walking back to a team huddle after making a mistake on the court, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Myers said it appeared on video Knight may have slapped Prince when he lifted the player's chin to make him look at him.

"I have discussed this with Michael Prince, his parents and coach Knight," Myers said in a release. "Coach Knight did not slap Michael.

"Here is what happened: Michael came off the court with his head down and coach Knight quickly lifted Michael's chin up and said, 'Hold your head up and don't worry about your mistakes. Just play the game.'

"In my opinion, coach Knight did not do anything wrong."
