NHL: Edmonton 2, Colorado 1

DENVER, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Colorado Avalanche, 2-1, Monday on the strength of Ryan Smyth's pair of second period goals.

Steve Staios, Shawn Horcoff, Marty Reasoner and Daniel Tjarnqvist collected a point each, and Dwayne Roloson stopped 33 shots for the Oilers, who have won two of three.

Milan Hejduk scored the lone goal for Colorado and Jose Theodore made 30 saves.

The Avalanche has now lost three straight and four of five.
