Ryan Howard powers U.S. in Japan

OSAKA, Japan, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard set off a five-run, eighth-inning rally Tuesday, powering the U.S. Major League All-Stars to a 7-2 victory over Japanese All-Stars in Osaka.

Howard, from the Philadelphia Phillies, snapped a 2-2 tie with a home run -- his fourth homer in three games -- and the New York Mets' Jose Reyes also drove in two runs in the rally.

New York Yankees pitcher Mike Myers collected the victory by retiring all four batters he faced in relief. Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles pitcher Kazuo Fukomori took the loss.

Howard connected with a blast with one out in the eighth and Fukomori walked the next three batters. Philadelphia's Chase Utley singled in one run, Washington's Brian Schneider walked to force in another and Reyes capped the rally with a two-run single. Schneider put the U.S. team up 1-0 with an RBI single in the second inning and the MLB squad went up by two when the Mets' David Wright led off the fourth with his second homer of the series.

Japan tied the score in the sixth. Yokohama's Yomiuri's Shuichi Murata singled in one run and Shinnosuke Abe delivered the other on a sacrifice fly.

The U.S. team has won all four games with the stars of Japan. The series wraps up Wednesday in Fukuoka, Japan.
