Durant, Goosen are co-leaders in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Joe Durant and Retief Goosen share the lead after the first 18 holes at the PGA's season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta.

In Thursday's opening round, both players shot 2-under 68 at the difficult course at the East Lake Golf Club.

On the tightly-packed leader-board, six players -- Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby, Stewart Cink, Tom Pernice Jr. and Vijay Singh -- shot 1-under 69.

That group is followed at even-par by group of five -- Brett Quigley, Ernie Els, J.J. Henry, Zach Johnson and Arron Oberholser -- who are tied for ninth place at 1-over 71.

Singh and Appleby held a share of the lead until late bogeys on the back nine, while Durant holed a three-putt bogey at No. 16. His round included birdies on two of the first four holes.

"It was very difficult today," Durant said. "I felt the wind was across most of the holes."
