Bomar cleared to play at Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar was told on Wednesday he will be eligible to play for the Division I-AA Sam Houston State for the 2007 season.

Bomar was dismissed by the Sooners after OU officials discovered that he was among those who received extra compensation above that which they were legitimately entitled to through their employment at a private business in Norman last summer.

He then transferred to Sam Houston State.

"I am happy to get this behind me," he said in a statement. "I look forward to having the opportunity to represent Sam Houston State. Right now, my top priority is seeing this team win some football games. This decision today will help take the focus off me and put the focus on the team."

Bomar started 10 of 12 games played in 2005, and was 167-of-308 passing for 2,018 yards, 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He has two years of eligibility remaining.
