LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Eight horses owned by Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, have been scheduled to run in Louisville, Ky.
The horses, including a 3-year-old named Bernardini that has won six consecutive races, compete Saturday in four races of the Breeders' Cup, The New York Times reported Monday.
Maktoum and his brothers own Godolphin stables, a collection of all-star horses owned by the family that train during the temperate winter in Dubai at a state-of-the-art center. Horses trained at the facility have won prestigious races in Europe and Asia, but have thus far had mixed results in the United States.
"I tried to win the Kentucky Derby buying European-type horses, and it did not work," Maktoum said. "So now we are doing it the right way. I am looking for the right horses. I see what American racing is about. So we learn, we learn every day."
