Kite in command at Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Tom Kite shot 4-under 68 Friday and has a one-shot lead through 36 holes at the Charles Schwab Championship at Sonoma, Calif.

Kite's overall score of 9-under 135 is one-shot better than Jay Haas (66) and Jim Thorpe (70).

Loren Roberts (66), Craig Stadler (69), Bobby Wadkins (66) and Andy Bean (68) are tied for fourth at 7-under 137.

During Friday's round, Kite made his third eagle in a week, but he also made two late bogeys. Friday's eagle came at the 11th hole for the second time.

Haas and Loren Roberts are the only two players with a chance to win the money title, the Charles Schwab Cup, and its $1 million annuity.

When the tournament began, Haas had a slight lead in each race.

This is the season-ending golf tournament on the Champions Tour.
