Raiders' Porter has suspension halved

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Disgruntled wide receiver Jerry Porter has had his team-ordered suspension cut in half to two games and cleared to return to the Oakland Raiders.

Porter was suspended by Raiders officials for four games for conduct detrimental to the team. But under a settlement with the NFL Management Council and the Players Association, the penalty was cut to two games.

Since he has already missed two games, Porter can return to the team.

Porter had 76 catches for 942 yards to lead Oakland's receiving corps last season but had problems with new Coach Art Shell. The wide receiver had demanded to be traded.

A member of the Raiders for his entire 6-year NFL career, Porter has 239 catches for 3,215 yards and 24 touchdowns as a professional.
