Michigan receiver faces assault charge

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- University of Michigan wide receiver Adrian Arrington was charged with domestic violence in Ypsilanti, Mich., for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Arrington was arrested in Ypsilanti on Oct. 13. His girlfriend, an Eastern Michigan University student, told police Arrington had been drinking, told her he wanted to return to Ann Arbor, grabbed the car keys from her and pulled her out of the car.

His lawyer Christ Easthope told the Ann Arbor News Arrington is free on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond and can leave the state to play football. He said Arrington denies any assault occurred.

Wolverines Coach Lloyd Carr said he takes domestic violence charges seriously, but these charges do not appear to be well founded.
