Grosjean beats Mathieu in Grand Prix

LYON, France, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Sebastien Grosjean of France beat countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets Monday at the Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon.

Grosjean defeated 2002 Lyon titlist Mathieu 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Also, fifth-seeded Swede Robin Soderling, the 2004 champ, beat Frenchman Thierry Ascione 6-3, 6-1 and eighth-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro defeated Austrian Oliver Marach 2-6, 7-5, 6-1..

In other opening-round play, German Florian Mayer defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 and Chilean Nicolas Massu defeated American Kevin Kim 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.
