Cleveland CB Baxter out for the season

CLEVELAND, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Cleveland Browns cornerback Gary Baxter will miss the rest of the season after tearing a tendon in his knee, the Browns said Monday.

Baxter injured the patellar tendon in his left knee Sunday during the Browns' 17-7 loss to Denver. Browns Coach Romeo Crennel said that Brown may have also injured his right knee.

Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday, putting Baxter out for the remainder of the season. He had 21 tackles and one interception this year.

Sunday marked Baxter's first game in the lineup since the second week of the season when he re-injured a pectoral muscle, an injury that cost him 11 games last year.

Baxter hadn't missed a game in his first three seasons with Baltimore before he signed a contract with Cleveland for the 2005 season.
