ATHENS, Ga., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- No. 24 Georgia overcame five turnovers and a stubborn Mississippi State team Saturday afternoon to post a 27-24 victory.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford was 20-for-32 passing for 269 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Kregg Lumpkin gained 79 yards and scored a touchdown on 15 carries, Kenneth Harris caught four passes for 108 yards, and Tripp Chandler and Mohamed Massaquoi caught touchdown passes for UGA (6-2, 3-2 SEC East), which snapped a two-game losing streak.
For Mississippi State (2-6, 0-4 SEC West), Anthony Dixon scored three touchdowns, rushing for 37 yards on 12 carries. Tony Burks had four receptions for 109 yards and Michael Henig completed 14 of 31 passes for 234 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Mississippi State was hurt by its inability to convert on third down plays, as it went 2-for-13 on those opportunities.
Dixon scored his final touchdown with 10:34 left in the contest.
