NHL: New Jersey 2, Pittsburgh 1

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored the eventual game-winning goal at 9:12 of the third period Wednesday night to give New Jersey a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh.

Jay Pandolfo scored the game's first goal at 3:18 of the second period. Sergei Brylin, John Madden, Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez all had one assist and goaltender Martin Brodeur allowed one goal on 38 shots for the Devils (4-2-0), who lead the Atlantic Division with eight points.

Brodeur became just the third goaltender in NHL history to win 450 games.

Evgeni Malkin scored the lone goal in his NHL debut on assists by Ryan Whitney and Mark Recchi in the second period, while goalie Marc-Andre Fleury surrendered two goals on 34 shots for the Penguins (2-3-0).
