NHL: NY Rangers 4, New Jersey 2

NEW YORK, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Brendan Shanahan and Jason Ward each scored late second-period goals Monday to pace the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

Aaron Ward and Martin Straka also scored for the Rangers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Jaromir Jagr and Michael Nylander each had an assist and have had assists in each of New York's first six games.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots in the win.

Scott Gomez and Travis Zajac both scored for the Devils, who had a two-game winning streak halted. Martin Brodeur allowed four goals on 29 shots faced.
