COL FB: Rutgers 34, Navy 0

ANNAPOLIS, Md., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Mike Teel passed for 215 yards and three TDs and Rutgers stopped Navy's top-ranked rushing attack Saturday as the No. 24 Scarlet Knights won, 34-0.

Teel completed 15-of-26 passes and Ray Rice ran for 93 yards for Rutgers (6-0), which became bowl-eligible for the second straight year and continued its best start since the 1976 team finished 11-0.

Navy (5-2) entered the game averaging 350.5 yards on the ground, but managed only 113 yards on 50 carries. Navy lost quarterback Brian Hampton to a dislocated left knee in the first quarter.

Hampton was the leading rusher for the Midshipmen and the key to their option offense, which didn't function well after he left. The game was scoreless when Hampton was carted off the field on a stretcher.
