Sorenstam, Ochoa in tie at Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- At 5-under-par 67, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam are co-leaders after the first 18 holes of the LPGA's Samsung World Championship at Palm Desert, Calif.

Sorenstam is the defending champion, and Ochoa won last week's Corona Morelia Championship in her native Mexico.

One shot behind at 4-under 68 are Sophie Gustafson and Seon-Hwa Lee, who tied for third place, with Paula Creamer and Stacy Prammanasudh two shots further back at 2-under 70 to tie for fifth.

"I think the fairways are quite generous," Sorenstam said. "When it's this windy anything can happen. I must say that the greens today are very, very fast."

"You have to be prepared," said Ochoa. "You just got to being patient and not stress or be worried and just keep it going."

16-year-old Michelle Wie continued her yearlong struggles by shooting 2-over 74 to tie for 12th place.
