ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays avoided arbitration with pitcher Jae Seo by signing him to a one-year contract Wednesday.
The 29-year-old right-hander was 1-8 with an ERA of 5.00 in 17 games with Tampa Bay. He was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in late July.
That deal also included catcher Dioner Navarro and outfielder Justin Ruggiano coming to Tampa Bay, with catcher Toby Hall, pitcher Mark Hendrickson and cash going to the Dodgers.
In 36 games overall, Seo was a combined 3-12 with a 5.33 ERA in 26 starts.
"Jae expressed a desire to get something done in advance of the arbitration process," said Andrew Friedman, Devil Rays executive vice president of baseball operations on the team's Web site. "We're excited to have Jae back."
The deal includes a $1.2 million base with incentives.
