VIENNA, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Austria's Sylvia Bammer Thursday was a surprise winner against Natalie Dechy of France in the second round of the Bangkok Open tennis tournament.
Bammer easily won the second-round match, 6-3, 6-1.
Elsewhere, fourth-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic was trounced by American Vania King 6-1, 6-1; sixth-seeded American Meghann Shaughnessy beat unseeded Julia Schruff of Germany, 6-1, 6-3; Japan's Aiko Nakamura ousted Mariana Diaz-Oliva from Argentina, 6-4, 6-3; No. 5 Eleni Daniilidou of Greece beat Erika Takao of Japan, 6-4, 6-4; eighth-seeded Jelena Kostanic of Croatia beat Poland's Marta Domachowska, 6-1, 6-0; while No. 9 seed Severine Bremond of France overcame Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Another winner was wild card Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand.
