Redskins put kicker Jon Hall on IR

ASHBURN, Va., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins have re-signed placekicker Nick Novak and placed his counterpart, Jon Hall, on the injured reserve list.

Hall will miss the remainder of the year after suffering strained quadriceps and thigh muscles in his right leg in last Sunday's loss to the New York Giants.

Hall has been hampered by injuries each of the last three seasons since being acquired in a trade with the New York Jets.

Also, sources told the Washington Post that during the pre-season, the 32-year-old Hall constantly required ice for his surgically re-attached groin muscle.

He made 9 of 11 field goal attempts this season.

Novak, who played at the University of Maryland, finished his career as the leading scorer in ACC history and tied for fifth in NCAA Division I-A history with 393 career points.

Novak has kicked for the Redskins and the Arizona Cardinals.

He won a try-out among four kickers on Tuesday.
