MLS: Kansas City 2, Chivas USA 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Jose Burciaga scored in the 74th minute to give the Wizards a 2-1 win over Chivas USA and keep the Wizards' hope alive for the MLS playoffs.

Jason Hernandez brought down Josh Wolff in the 73rd minute to concede a penalty kick. Burciaga drove the ball hard to the left of goal keeper Brad Guzan, who got a hand on it, but could not keep it out.

After a scoreless first half, Kansas City scored in the 50th minute on Dave van den Bergh's second goal of the season, which came on a feed from Burciaga.

Chivas tied the score as they earned a penalty kick of their own in the 71st. Nick Garcia tripped up Jonathan Bornstein as he tried to make a pass inside the box.

Claudio Suarez sent goal keeper Bo Oshoniyi the wrong way and tucked the ball inside the left post to temporarily even the match.

Despite the loss, Chivas USA qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in club history.

If the Wizards beat or tie the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium in their season finale, they will take fourth place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. If the Red Bulls win, they will claim fourth place and a playoff spot.
