Australian crash claims life of Porter

SYDNEY, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Professional race car driver Mark Porter has died from injuries he sustained in a crash at Mount Panorama in the Australian region of Bathurst.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. said the 31-year-old Porter, who crashed Friday during the first race of the Development Series, died Sunday from critical injuries he suffered in a 124-mph crash.

A statement released by V8 Supercars Australia offered Porter's family its sympathies and the group's support of his widow, Adrienne, and their one-year-old son, Flynn.

The report said V8 driver David Clark, who was involved in the crash with Porter, has been placed in an induced coma to allow his body to recover from the serious injuries he suffered.
