MLS: Columbus 4, Chicago 1

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Eddie Gaven, Jason Garey and Ricardo Virtuoso scored goals as the Columbus Crew beat the Chicago Fire, 4-1, Saturday night.

The Crew, already eliminated from MLS post-season play, were fired up for the contest against Chicago -- which had already nailed down a spot in the playoffs and came into the match trying to secure home-field advantage.

Chris Rolfe's goal in the fourth minute gave Chicago a 1-0 lead.

Columbus tied the score 22 minutes later with a cross in from Joseph Ngwenya that Garey tapped to Gaven, who sent it home just six yards out for his fourth tally of the season.

Garey got his own goal just before the break by challenging Fire goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Rolfe missed his chance for a second goal when he struck a chance over the net from 20-yards out in the 62nd.

Virtuoso added the insurance for the visitors in the 77th minute after he collected a pass from Gaven and carried the ball uncontested before sending it into the far corner as he approached the 18-yard box.
