MLB: Florida 3, Philadelphia 2 (11)

MIAMI, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Jason Wood singled in Alfredo Amezaga in the 11th inning, giving the Florida Marlins a season-ending 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Philadelphia was eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday and ended the season with an 85-77 record. Florida's 78-84 mark was better than many expected the Marlins to achieve this year.

Florida loaded the bases in the 11th inning Sunday before Wood's hot grounder went off Philadelphia shortstop Danny Sandoval, allowing Amezaga to score and hand a loss to Fabio Castro (0-1).

Neither team scored more than a run in any inning, with the Mariners' Dan Uggla hitting a home run in the sixth inning for the lone home run of the game.

Six Florida pitchers scattered seven hits over the 11 innings. Matt Herges (2-3) allowed one hit over the last two innings to collect the victory.
