Schumacher wins the Chinese Grand Prix

SHANGHAI, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher Sunday won the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, crossing the finish line 3.1 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso. The victory gave the retiring Schumacher seven this season and 91 in his career. He tied Alonso in the points race. Both drivers have 116 points, but Schumacher is the leader based on more wins (7-6).

"Today was a little present to myself," said Schumacher, who had never won at Shanghai.

On a rainy day and a wet track, Alonso was hampered by a set of wet tires on lap 41, and was overtaken by Schumacher before he could make a change.

Giancarlo Fisichella (Renault), Jenson Button (Honda), Pedro de la Rosa (McLaren), Rubens Barrichello (Honda), Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber), and Mark Webber (Williams) finished in spots 3-8, completing the points-scoring positions. Also in the points race, Fisichella is third with 63 points; Felipe Massa is fourth with 62 points; and Kimi Raikkonen is fifth with 62 points.
