TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A 53-yard field goal by Jeremy Ito in the fourth quarter Friday night helped No. 23 Rutgers rally to beat South Florida, 22-20.
The Scarlet Knights were playing as a ranked team for the first time in 30 years.
The Golden Bulls held a 14-10 halftime lead, but were out-scored, 12-6, in the second half and missed a two-point conversion with 15 seconds remaining.
Ray Rice ran for two touchdowns and 202 yards on 35 carries; Mike Teel was 11-of-20 passing for 100 yards and one interception; Dennis Campbell made four catches for 48 yards; and Ito kicked three field goals for the Scarlet Knights (5-0, 1-0 Big East).
Matt Grothe passed for 241 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while running for 69 yards and two scores on 12 attempts; and Amarri Jackson caught three passes for 83 yards for the Golden Bulls (3-2, 0-1 Big East).
