ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Tim Salmon, who this week announced his retirement, hit his 299th career home run in helping the LA Angels of Anaheim to a 6-5 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Salmon's three-run, first-inning home run sent the Angels off Wednesday and Howie Kendrick's seventh-inning RBI proved to be the game winner. Brendan Donnelly (6-0) collected the victory with 1 1/3 innings of relief and Francisco Rodriguez earned his 45th save.
Texas, which got two home runs and five RBI from Mark Teixeira, tied the score at 5-5 in the seventh but Kendrick's one-out double down the right-field line scored Juan Rivera and handed C.J. Wilson (2-4) the loss.
Salmon opened the scoring with his home run with none out in the first but Teixeira answered with a three-run shot of his own in the fifth to make the score 3-3.
The Angels took a two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth with Salmon singling in one run and scoring the other on an Adam Kennedy ground out. Teixeira's seventh-inning homer tied the score again.
