Stosur defeats Kremer in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Aussie Samantha Stosur defeated Luxembourg's Anne Kremer in Monday's first-round action at the $600,000 Luxembourg Tennis Championships.

Stosur beat Kremer 6-1, 6-4 and next faces top-seeded Russian Elena Dementieva, who received an opening-round bye, along with her fellow Russians Nadia Petrova and Dinara Safina and Swiss Patty Schnyder.

In other first day play, Czech Kveta Peschke defeated German Julia Schruff 7-5, 6-1 and Slovak Daniela Hantuchova beat France's Tatiana Golovin 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
