Shaun Alexander has broken foot

SEATTLE, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Seattle Seahawks running back and reigning National Football League MVP Shaun Alexander was diagnosed Monday with a broken foot and is out indefinitely.

Alexander, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, established an NFL record with 28 touchdowns and helped the Seahawks to 13-3 record during the 2005 regular season.

He broke the previous touchdown mark of 27 set by Kansas City running back Priest Holmes during the 2003 season, and helped the Seahawks reach their first ever Super Bowl appearance.

The seven-year veteran signed a new contract in the off-season worth an estimated $62 million over eight years, but has been limited in his production so far this season.

With the loss of standout offensive lineman Steve Hutchinson and injuries holding him back, Alexander has gained just 187 yards on 65 carries for a 2.9 average.

Since joining Seattle in 2000, Alexander has become the Seahawks career leader in rushing yards, attempts, rushing touchdowns, and 100-yard games.
