Furman back leads Division 1-AA honorees

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Furman fullback Jerome Felton, who scored a school record six touchdowns last weekend, has been selected an NCAA Division 1-AA player of the week.

Felton, a junior whose touchdown total was also a Southern Conference record, scored on runs of 13, 2, 2, 5, 1 and 1 yards Saturday to help Furman defeat Western Carolina 42-7. He has scored a total of 10 touchdowns in his last two games.

Division 1-AA weekly honors were also won by North Dakota State quarterback Steve Walker; Bethune-Cookman safety Bobbie Williams and Appalachian State punt returner Dexter Jackson.

Walker, a junior, completed 26-of-46 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns in helping the Bison to a 29-24 victory over Division 1-A Ball State. His 39-yard scoring throw to Travis White with 1:25 left was the game winner.

Williams, another junior, had three interceptions -- two deep in Bethune-Cookman territory -- in the Wildcats' 22-21 victory over Norfolk State.

Jackson, also a junior, returned consecutive punts for touchdowns in boosting Appalachian State to a 41-6 victory over Gardner-Webb. The returns were for 86 and 68 yards.
