MLB: Detroit 15, Kansas City 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Detroit erupted for 10 runs in the top of the first inning Saturday night and clobbered the Kansas City Royals, 15-4.

Curtis Granderson had two runs, two hits, including a solo home run to start the game, and four RBI; Carlos Guillen had one run, three hits and three RBI; Chris Shelton and Placido Polanco both had two RBI; Marcus Thames had three runs, one hit and one RBI; Brandon Inge had two runs, two hits and one RBI; and Shelton and Polanco also had three hits for the Tigers (93-62), who have won three of their last four games.

Winner Kenny Rogers (17-6) gave up a run and five hits over eight innings.

John Buck hit two homers and drove in three runs, and Ryan Shealy hit an RBI single for the Royals (58-96), who have a five-game losing streak.

The loser was Mark Redman (10-10).
