HOUSTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman hit his second two-run homer of the game in the top of the eighth inning Thursday night, giving Houston a 6-5 win over St. Louis.
Berkman had three hits, Orlando Palmeiro hit a two-run single, and Mike Lamb had a run and two hits for the Astros (74-78), who have won three of their last four games.
In relief, the winner was Dave Borkowski (2-2).
Dan Wheeler earned his seventh save.
Albert Pujols and Ronny Belliard both had one RBI; one run scored on a fielder's choice ground ball by Belliard; a run scored on a fielding error by Craig Biggio; and another scored on a wild pitch by Andy Pettitte for the Cardinals (80-71), who have lost three of their last four games.
Losing pitcher Chris Carpenter (15-7) surrendered six runs and nine hits in eight innings with no walks and five strikeouts.
