Owens has surgery for broken ring finger

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens underwent surgery Monday on his broken right ring finger.

Owens, who had a plate screwed into the finger on Monday, had said he expected to be out 2-to-4 weeks because of the injury he suffered in Sunday night's 27-10 win over Washington.

Owens, who made his Cowboys home debut, caught three passes for 19 yards before leaving the game.

Owens had six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown in Dallas' season-opening 24-17 loss at Jacksonville.

Owens was suspended or inactive for the final nine games of the 2005 season because of constant problems with the Eagles front office. He missed almost all of training camp and the preseason with the Cowboys due to a hamstring injury.

After a tumultuous two-year tenure in Philadelphia, the Eagles cut Owens. The wide-out finished last season with 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns over seven games.
