Five Duquesne athletes shot on campus

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh police were searching for a suspect in the shooting of five Duquesne University basketball players after a dance on campus early Sunday.

City police investigators said two of the men were in critical condition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Sam Ashaolu, a 6-foot-7 forward who transferred to Duquesne from Lake Region Community College in North Dakota, was reported in critical condition at Pittsburgh's Mercy Hospital. Ashaolu is a cousin of former NBA Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon.

Stuard Baldonado, a 6-7 transfer from Miami Dade College, was reported in serious condition at Mercy Hospital, and Kojo Mensah, a transfer Siena College, was admitted to University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.

Aaron Jackson and Shawn James were treated and released.

The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. The basketball players had been at a dance, attended by the suspect with a group of people who were not believed to be students at the university.

The shots were fired after the two groups encountered each other outside the hall after the dance.
