MLB: Boston 6, Baltimore 5

BALTIMORE, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Mark Loretta hit an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning Thursday night, giving the Boston Red Sox a 6-5 win over Baltimore.

It was the second straight inning Loretta hit a run-scoring single.

Jason Varitek hit an RBI double and had three hits; Mike Lowell hit an RBI single; a run scored on a double play groundout by Trot Nixon; and Kevin Youkilis and Wily Mo Pena each had a run and two hits for the Red Sox (78-68), who have won three of their last four games.

The winner was Keith Foulke (3-1).

Mike Timlin recorded his fifth save.

Jeff Fiorentino had two hits and two RBI, Kevin Millar and Brian Roberts each drove in a run, and the Orioles (63-83) scored a run on a wild pitch by Boston starter Lenny DiNardo, as they lost for the fourth time in five games.

The losing pitcher was Rodrigo Lopez (9-16).
