Simon, Ramirez Hidalgo win BCR openers

BUCHAREST, Romania, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- High-seeded Gilles Simon of France and Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain were first-round winners Monday at the BCR Open Romania tennis tournament.

The fourth-seeded Simon defeated Argentine Juan Monaco 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, and sixth-seeded Ramirez Hidalgo beat Romanian Victor Ionita 6-4, 6-4.

In other opening-round play, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated countryman Albert Montanes 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 and Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello beat Romanian Razvan Sabau, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
