Kareem Abdul-Jabbar angers neighbors

NEW YORK, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has angered some residents in New York's Harlem neighborhood after he apparently dumped trash in a neighbor's yard.

A pile of trash belonging to Abdul-Jabbar, who recently moved into a brownstone home in upper Manhattan, was reportedly found in the yard of neighbor Gisele Allard, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

The items found buried under flattened cardboard boxes included an old pair of size-17 sneakers, a Los Angeles Lakers ID card and a ticket to the 2005 NCAA basketball championship game.

"I don't think this is a nice way to arrive in the neighborhood," said Allard. "What if this had burned last night?"

Allard said she tried ringing Abdul-Jabbar's doorbell, but there was no answer. She then piled some of the items on his front steps, she said.

Another neighbor, William Stratford, said he reassembled the flattened boxes and moved items to his own home. He said he plans to ask Abdul-Jabbar to autograph the discarded shoes for a possible eBay sale.
