Hrbaty, Srichaphan advance in Beijing

BEIJING, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Slovak Dominik Hrbaty and sixth-seeded Thai Paradorn Srichaphan were among first-round winners Monday at the $500,000 China Open.

Hrbaty defeated South African Rik De Voest 6-1, 6-0, and Srichaphan defeated German Rainer Schuettler, 6-3, 6-3.

Eighth-seeded Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea won, 6-3, 6-4 over Russian Igor Kunitsyn.

In other first day matches, American Kevin Kim beat Dane Kristian Pless, 6-2, 6-4; Italian Stefano Galvani beat Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); Thai Danai Udomchoke beat Swiss Marco Chiudinelli, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3; and Taipei's Yeu-Tzuoo Wang beat Chinese Xin Yuan Yu, 6-1, 6-4.

This week's top seeds are Croat Ivan Ljubicic, Russian Nikolay Davydenko and Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis. All three start play on Tuesday.
