Jacobsen off senior tour with hip surgery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Peter Jacobsen is expected to miss the rest of the Champions Tour season after he informed the U.S. tour Tuesday he will have hip replacement surgery Saturday.

"I've got bone spurs and lots of problems in my left hip -- bone-on-bone," said Jacobsen. "The doctor said it's time to come out. I'm starting to experience other problems with my back, my neck, so as anyone who has had hip replacement surgery knows, you know when the time to do it is and it's now for me. You start to develop other complications."

Jacobsen said the recovery time is supposed to last six to seven weeks. He missed time last year due to two knee surgeries and played the whole season with hip pain.

Despite the ailment, Jacobsen posted six top 10s in 2006 and is 17th on the money list.
