MLB: Colorado 8, N.Y. Mets 4

DENVER, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Starting and winning pitcher Jeff Francis had two hits and two RBI Thursday night as Colorado beat the New York Mets, 8-4.

Garrett Atkins had two runs, two hits, including a two-run homer; Matt Holliday hit a two-run single; while Choo Freeman and Chris Ianetta both had one RBI for the Rockies (62-71), who have split their last four games.


In five innings, Francis (11-10) gave up four runs and 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

David Wright hit a solo home run; Carlos Beltran hit a sacrifice fly; and Jose Reyes had one run, three hits, and two RBI for the Mets (82-50), who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Losing pitcher Oliver Perez (12-11) was pounded for seven runs and 12 hits in only three innings.
