DENVER, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A first inning grand slam home run by David Wright Wednesday night helped the New York Mets clobber Colorado, 11-3.
Wright added an RBI single in the second for five RBI; Jose Valentin hit two solo homers; Carlos Delgado hit a solo shot; Valentin had two runs, two hits, and two RBI; Paul LoDuca had two runs, two hits, and one RBI; starter and winner Dave Williams had a run and two hits; and Carlos Beltran had two hits and one RBI for the Mets (82-49), who have won four in a row and nine of their last 10 games.
Williams (4-3) scattered three runs and nine hits over seven innings.
Yorvit Torrealba and Kaz Matsui each had one RBI; and a run scored on a wild pitch for the Rockies (61-71), who have eight losses in their last 10 games.
The losing pitcher was starter Josh Fogg (9-9).
