OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Bobby Kielty and Mark Ellis hit home runs Wednesday afternoon to power Oakland over the Boston Red Sox, 7-2, completing a three-game sweep.
Both homers were solo blasts off Boston starter and loser Curt Schilling.
Jason Kendall had two runs, three hits and one RBI; Frank Thomas, Nick Swisher, Jay Payton and Mark Kotsay all had one RBI; and Ellis had two runs and two hits for the Athletics (76-56).
Oakland has eight wins in its last 10 games.
Winning pitcher Barry Zito (15-8) gave up one run and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Eric Hinske and Dustin Pedroia each had one RBI, and both Hinske and Gabe Kapler had two hits for the Red Sox (71-62), whose losing streak grew to six games.
In 5 1/3 innings, Schilling (14-7) surrendered six runs and 11 hits.
He became the 14th major league pitcher to record at least 3,000 strikeouts.
