NFL: Minnesota 17, Pittsburgh 10

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Brad Johnson, playing in the first half Saturday night, passed for 71 yards and one touchdown as Minnesota beat Pittsburgh, 17-10.

Johnson, who will be the starter this fall, completed 9-of-11 passes and threw a scoring pass of 12 yards to Jermaine Wiggins.

Ryan Longwell kicked a 38-yard field goal. Wendell Mathis and Chester Taylor both rushed for 36 yards and Jason Carter had two receptions for 48 yards for the Vikings (1-1).

Charlie Batch was 8-of-14 passing for 103 yards, no touchdowns and one interception for Pittsburgh. Nate Washington had three catches for 53 yards and John Kuhn rushed for 30 yards on eight attempts for the Steelers (0-2).

Despite spraining his right thumb earlier this week in practice, Pittsburgh starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 3-of-4 passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.
