Phoenix guard Cappie Poindexter was a distant second with 34 points and forward Sophia Young of San Antonio was third with two points.

Augustus, a guard, started all 34 games this season, averaged 21.9 points per game, and had an 89.7 free-throw percentage.

She set team records for points in a season and most field-goals made (283). Her 744 points more than doubled the previous team-high for a single season.

"It's an honor to be named rookie of the year especially considering the season's that Cappie, Sophia, and the rest of the 2006 rookie class had," said Augustus, who was the first pick overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft. "I would like to thank my teammates and the entire organization because without either of them, this would not be possible."
