MLB: San Francisco 8, San Diego 4

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Kevin Frandsen had three runs, three hits and two RBI Thursday afternoon as San Francisco beat San Diego, 8-4, for a four-game sweep.

One of Frandsen's hits was a two-run homer in the ninth inning.

Pedro Feliz had one run, two hits, including a solo homer, and three RBI; Shea Hillenbrand drove in two runs; and Steve Finley hit an RBI single for the Giants (58-63), who have split their last 10 games and climbed within six games of the first place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Winning pitcher Matt Cain (9-9) gave up one hit in 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six walks and eight strikeouts.

Josh Barfield hit a grand slam for the Padres (60-61), who had only five hits and lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games.

Loser Jake Peavy (6-12) surrendered three runs and three hits in seven innings.
