Cyclist Landis' father-in-law found dead

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- David Witt, the father-in-law of contested Tour de France winner Floyd Landis, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his car in San Diego.

Witt, 57, was found at 3:14 p.m. Wednesday in a parking garage, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The San Diego County medical examiner's office said the cause was still under investigation.

Witt, an amateur cyclist, was close friends with Landis and introduced him to his daughter, Amber, to whom Landis is married. Witt and Floyd Landis were also best men at each other's weddings, Cyclingnews reported.

Last month, Witt and his wife went to Paris to watch Landis' victory at the Tour de France on the Champs-Elysees, although the title is in jeopardy because Landis has twice tested positive for doping.
