MLB: Colorado 4, Arizona 3

DENVER, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Brad Hawpe drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth Monday as Colorado downed Arizona, 4-3.

The action came in the first of a four-game series at Coors Field.

The Rockies tied the game in the eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single by Yorvit Torrealba.

Jamey Carroll went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Todd Helton collected three hits and an RBI for the Rockies, who have won three of their last four.

Jeff Francis allowed two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings, but Jeremy Affeldt tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up the win.

Eric Byrnes smacked a three-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped two straight and three of four. Claudio Vargas allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on six hits with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
