MLB: Pittsburgh 7, St. Louis 0

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Jason Bay and Joe Randa hit home runs Sunday afternoon as Pittsburgh clobbered the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-0, for its third straight win.

Chris Duffy had one run, two hits and three RBI; Freddy Sanchez had two runs and two hits; and Jose Bautista scored twice for the Pirates (45-73), who have split their last 10 games.


Winner Paul Maholm (5-10) scattered eight hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings with three walks and one strikeout.

Ronnie Belliard and So Taguchi each had two hits for the Cardinals (62-55), who have lost three of their last four games and scored only three runs in the series.

Losing pitcher Jason Marquis (12-11) surrendered only two runs and three hits in six innings, but the Cardinals' bullpen gave up five runs in two innings.

The Cardinals' lead over Cincinnati in the National League Central has dwindled to 1 ½ games.
